when tragedy strikes

the bushfires happened swift and ferociously. no one expected that it would have such degree of intensity and result in such a disaster. the death toll at present stands at 181, and could go up as further reports come in. for someone with no concept of bushfires, this is seriously the worst way to learn of it. there have been bushfires in past years but never one so disastrous. also, living in the city coupled with the fact that my summers were always spent in singers, meant that it never really was an issue to me.

seeing all the footage - of people being burnt to death in their cars, families losing all their property makes one realise how very lucky they are. although it may have happened in regional Victoria, there are plenty of people with family who live there and I am thankful that no one I know is affected by it.

I hope everyone can do what they can and give generously to help those affected.

on a different note, mum and dad both called me on seperate occassions asking if i was alright. so sweet of them. wasn't expecting them to call since it did not affect the inner city but was sweet nonetheless. *warm fuzzy feeling* love them to bits.
